Shay's Year-End Holiday Message

Dear family and friends,

"Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared." (Attributed to the Buddha)

This seems an appropriate thought at this time of year, a time of sharing, appreciation for the past year and reflection.

As I look out the window of my home office this time of year my street is a glittered with colorful, festive lights. As a child living in Salem, Oregon, I had a favorite house on Fairmount Hill--affectionately called the Blue House. I loved visiting that house, outlined from roofline to every inch of shrubbery in blue twinkling lights. It was magical. Memories from our childhood this time of year are present for all of us as we motion through the traditions established over the years.

In brief, as I have spoken to so many of you over the past year, all is well here in Oregon. We have had a healthy year, the need for glasses has arrived, lighter tresses to disguise the blessing of lightening hair and in general, continue to live with an attitude of gratitude.

I spent the summer living and working in Kentucky--beautiful state, horse country. There is the west coast and the east coast, and then the occasional big city, like Chicago... and then there is the rest of the country, and that's where I was. It was a cultural experience... a regional experience... reminding me of how fortunate having both education and international experience lends to one’s perspective and tolerance.

Boyd will be touring the West coast early this year with the Terry Evans band and then in March traveling the European music circuit with Terry. Playing in such places as Avignon, France, Como, Italy, locations in Spain and Germany, yet to be scheduled and naturally looking forward to being a "ROCK STAR" touring in Europe, egad... He is fond of wearing his T-shirt "Life is Good," and so it is!

I ran across this quote from an unknown author the other day, having read this years ago I was reminded we all remain at some level a child, especially during this time of year. The wonder of the season, its magic and glad tidings, the quote seemed worthy for the annual Holiday greeting. It is titled, "Children Learn What They Live."

If a child lives with criticism, she learns to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility, he learns to fight.
If a child lives with ridicule, she learns to be shy.
If a child lives with shame, he learns to feel guilt.

If a child lives with tolerance, she learns to be patient.
If a child lives with encouragement, he learns confidence.
If a child lives with praise, she learns to appreciate.
If a child lives with fairness, he learns justice.
If a child lives with security, she learns to have faith.
If a child lives with approval, he learns to like himself.
If a child lives with acceptance and friendship, he or she learns to find love in the world.

Best of holiday wishes,
Shay & WookieRalph & WookieBoyd
