Dear Friends,
In our featured article, "Swine Flu Hype," new recommendations by doctors and nutritionists include supplementing with Vitamin D at the first onset of a cold or flu, due to the vitamin's profound effect on the immune system. In therapeutic high doses (up to 1000 IU/pound of body weight per day) the vitamin dramatically increases the body's natural production of antibodies, and has been shown to be effective in the treatment of a host of other seasonal infections, including meningitis, septicemia, and pneumonia, in both children and adults. Just exposing your skin to what sunlight there is during the winter, won't produce any Vitamin D, either, because anywhere north of Los Angeles the sun never gets high enough in the sky for its ultraviolet B rays to penetrate the atmosphere that would the skin changes necessary to produce the vitamin.
